Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is a research supported treatment that focuses on helping you become more aware and to understand the complex patterns in your thinking, emotions, and behavior. We will work together to explore and problem solve where you might be getting stuck, and develop new ways to respond to any painful thoughts and feelings when they show up. CBT is a very effective and helpful treatment for many people, including those with anxiety, depression, insomnia, those who hope to gain a greater understanding of themselves, or who are navigating life's challenges

Though I am a general therapist, I specialize in CBT for anxiety and related disorders for teens and adults. If you are someone who is afraid or has anxiety in situations like:

  • Making mistakes

  • Having panic attacks

  • Driving, flying, going over bridges, being in crowded spaces, or leaving the house alone

  • Vomiting

  • Socializing i.e. being in groups of people, starting conversations, sending emails, giving presentations at school or work

Or, if you would describe yourself as someone who worries a lot, who has a lot of concern about life's changes or stages (i.e. going to a new school, moving, parenthood, careers), or just generally feel that your anxiety is having a significant impact on your life, let's work together to help you conquer your fears.

*Upon request and depending on your treatment goals I can accompany you to specific places to help conquer your fears in person.

Exposure and Response Prevention

ERP/ExRP is a type of CBT that was specifically developed to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and is considered the gold standard treatment.

In ERP, we will also work together to understand and gradually face your fears to increase your confidence and sense of control over your life.

Trauma-focused therapy

Traumatic experiences can change the way we think about ourselves, other people and the world. It is also natural to want to avoid doing anything that reminds you of traumatic memories or the painful emotions that come with them. At the same time, avoidance is often what keeps us stuck from recovering. Recovering from trauma can be very difficult, and you don't have to do it alone. I have expertise in several evidence-based treatments for trauma-related stress and PTSD for adults. I offer Cognitive Processing Therapy (certification 2019), Prolonged Exposure and Written Exposure Therapy.
